About Bill Fortney

Bill Fortney is a professional photographer of 35 years experience. Throughout his career he has worked in a number of areas of photography. An award winning photojournalist and sports photographer, he was the official photographer for the Washington Redskins during the strike-shortened Super Bowl season. As a magazine photojournalist, he has interviewed and photographed over 70 celebrities. Over the past fifteen years Bill has become one of the best known nature photographers in America. His company, The Great American Photography Weekends is one of the most successful and top rated workshops companies in America. Over the past twelve years Bill has taught with the Who's Who of natural history photography. In August of 2002 Bill joined Nikon as their Nikon Professional Services Representative for the National Nature Market and the Southern U.S. Known for his humor, (once called "the Will Rogers of Photography" in a newspaper article ), Bill is a much sought after presenter.

Bill and David Middleton produced the runaway bestseller, "The Nature of America". Bill's book, "America from 500 Feet", became a national bestseller with 51,000 copies sold. Bill's third book, "Bill Fortney's Great Photography Workshop!" released in March of 2003 was the best selling outdoor photography, instructional book of the year.

Bill, 59, is married and has three adult children and five grandchildren. He and his wife Sherelene reside in Corbin, Kentucky.
